What it takes to lose a pound

A pound of body fat equates to approximately 3500 calories. So if you have a calorie deficit of 500 calories (meaning that you burn 500 calories more than you eat each day) you would lose approximately one pound per week: 500 x 7 = 3,500.

A calorie deficit of 1000 calories would mean that you'd lose approximately two pounds per week. This is the commonly accepted maximum rate of weight loss that is healthy.

To use this calculator, enter the number pounds to lose, the number of weeks then click the calculator. The number that appears is the daily caloric deficit required to achieve the selected goal.

Daily water requirements in ounces
How much water should you drink every day.

he human body requires a fresh supply of water every day. Not only is water one of the most abundant nutrients available, but it's also the most important. Water helps regulate and maintain your body temperature, transports nutrients and oxygen, removes waste products, and moistens your mouth, eyes, nose, hair, skin, joints, and digestive tract. Limiting your water intake can result in dehydration, elevated body temperature, fatigue, decreased performance, and increased risk of heat-related illness.

Consume at least ten 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Use the water calculator to determine your suggested daily water intake based on your weight.
