Snowshoe Class Descriptions
Beginners must be in good physical
health and comfortable brisk walking for 1 hour non-stop. Snowshoeing is more
intense than walking so you will feel the increase in your heart rate and
working muscles. Beginners will be encouraged to work at their own level of
fitness and will increase their overall fitness level within a few short weeks.
The basics of 'on/off trail' snowshoeing and the Tom Rutlin technique of
Urban/Nordic walking with the poles will be taught and practiced. This is a
great winter workout with variety of trails, terrain and intensities. The poles
offer an upper body workout that targets core, back, chest, triceps and
shoulders while you snowshoe!
Intermediate This is a great class
for those fit individuals who have stayed active all year round ie. Nordic
walking, fitness classes, cycling etc. There will be a variety of trails,
terrain and intensities. Participants will be encouraged to slowly increase
their intensity by using a variety of poling actions, speed, hills, intervals
etc. Nordic walking poles using the Tom Rutlin Technique will also be used to
offer a great upper body workout.
Advanced This class is for those who are very fit
and welcome the challenge of fresh snow and a variety of exercises, terrain,
intervals and speeds. Nordic walking poles will add more intensity as the upper
body works just as hard as the lower.
For your convenience, classes offer a combination of either
Beginner/Intermediate or Intermediate/Advanced. If you feel the class you have
registered for is too easy or too difficult then you have the option of
switching classes.
